Each month we discuss a mystery book on the second Thursday morning.
Our June 2024 book will be Long Bright River by Liz Moore.
In a Philadelphia neighborhood rocked by the opioid crisis, two once-inseparable sisters find themselves at odds. Alternating its present-day mystery with the story of the sisters' childhood and adolescence, we learn Kacey now lives on the streets in the vise of addiction, while Mickey walks those same blocks on her police beat. They don't speak anymore, but Mickey never stops worrying about her sibling. Then Kacey suddenly disappears, and at the same time a mysterious string of murders begins in Mickey's district. Mickey becomes dangerously obsessed with finding the culprit--and her sister--before it's too late.
(Warning: this book can be disturbing per some reviews: "fast paced with a gritty, uneasy narrative." "An uncomfortable read" "dark, serious novel, filled with emotional depth and suspense". "This story was so freaking good, and so heavy and so sad.")
The book will be available to borrow at the Circulation Desk, usually by the previous month's meeting. For example, the March book will be available upon request at the Circulation Desk between the February meeting and the date of the March meeting.
