Books for Breakfast meets on the 3rd Tuesday every month at 9:30 am.

We are currently meeting by both Zoom and In Person. Please indicate which way you plan to attend!

In May 2024 we will discuss Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See.  (In 2023 we read The Island of Sea Women  by this author.) This book recounts the story of a real, historical woman of the Ming dynasty. Tan Yunxian was raised by her grandmother, one of few female doctors in China, learning alongside a young midwife-intraining, Mei-ling. Then she is sent into an arranged marriage. Yunxian is to act like a proper wife - sew, play music, give birth to sons, and stay forever within the walls of the family compound. Yet she breaks free to treat women and girls from every level of society, and leads a life so important that many of her remedies are still used five centuries later.

For people who attend the group regularly, a hold will be placed for you each month in time for the next month's book to arrive by our meeting date. If you are not a regular attender, please place a hold yourself or contact the library to place the hold for you.
