The Witness to Injustice / KAIROS Blanket Exercise™is a unique 2-3 hour interactive experience designed to educate, foster truth, understanding, and respect between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in the part of the world now known as the United States.Through the use of meaningful quotes and blankets that represent part of Turtle Island (the Western Hemisphere), participants explore the history of the indigenous peoples that is rarely learned.
The Excercise helps participants deepen their understanding about the European colonization of Turtle Island and the denial of Indigenous peoples' nationhood throughout U.S. history up to the present time. For further infromation check out the brochure.
This program will be cosponsored by the following public libraries in Onondaga County: Baldwinsville, LaFayette, Liverpool, Maxwell, NOPL* & Tully.
Participants must be 16+
This exercise can be a very emotional experience. Please call the library with any questions or concerns.
Presented by the Neighbors of the Onondaga Nation and the Syracuse Peace Council.
Registration required through the Liverpool Public Library and will start September 1st.
* On Friday, September 23, Northern Onondaga Public Library at Cicero will host a a demonstration of beadwork in the tradition of the Seneca Nation. Participants will be able to create their own wearable piece. Materials such as beads, needles and thread will be provided. Register for Beadwork Here
