This summer's reading program is themed "Oceans of Possibilities!"

Julia offers an ocean-themed Lecture Series about the Oceans:

  • Tuesday July 12 at 3 pm: Our Blue Planet - learn how the flow of water affects everything on our planet, creating life itself, determining the climate everywhere in the world, and making our planet unique in the solar system.
  • Tuesday July 26 at 3 pm: Underwater Virtual Reality Group Experience - take a virtual trip down under the ocean while sitting in our Story Room! Julia will guide the cameras as we venture under the ocean in 360 VR camera experiences. Some members of the audience will get to try out the controls as well.  Space is limited; if more than 12 people sign up, Julia will re-create the event in August for others to enjoy. SIGNUP REQUIRED.
  • Tuesday August 9 at 10:30 am: Barrier Islands - A Guest Speaker, Ed Ponto, retired professor at Onondaga Community College, will describe some of his travel and exploration of the ocean and the Barrier Islands as a geologist and educator. (Light refreshments will be provided as long as COVID protocols allow it.)
  • Tuesday, August 23 at 10:30 am: Oceans and The Future - A Guest Speaker, Curtis Lindy, will revisit the Earth as an ocean planet, discussing what will happen to the oceans from the next 50 years, to infinity and beyond...
